How Motherhood Made Me a Stronger Founder: Lessons in Resilience, Balance, and Focus

International Women’s Day, celebrated earlier this month, is a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. As I reflect on my journey, I see how becoming a mother not only shaped my life but also made me a stronger, more intentional founder. Hem Support Wear would not exist if it weren’t for my experience with motherhood. It set me on this path, and along the way, it has given me invaluable lessons that continue to guide me as an entrepreneur.

Playing the Long Game

Motherhood has taught me patience and endurance—two qualities that are just as crucial in business as they are in parenting. There’s a natural instinct to want to move fast, to check things off a list, and to see immediate progress. But I’ve learned that both raising children and building a business require a long-term perspective. It’s not about sprinting to the finish line but about creating something sustainable, something that grows with time.

This means structuring my schedule in a way that allows me to prioritize my work while still being present for my family. It means making decisions that serve my health, my time with my daughters, and my ability to show up fully in all areas of my life. Slow and steady growth is the goal—not burnout.

Turning Challenge Into Purpose

When I was diagnosed with Pelvic Organ Prolapse after having my first child, I felt overwhelmed and alone. But that experience ultimately put me on the path that I am on today. It gave me a deep sense of purpose and a drive to create something that would support other women facing similar challenges. If I had not become a mother, I would not be doing this work.

Motherhood changed my body, but it also changed my perspective. It gave me a reason to step into entrepreneurship in a way that felt truly meaningful. Hem Support Wear exists because of my own journey—and that has made every challenge along the way worth it.

Strength in Resilience

Motherhood is filled with moments that test you—sleepless nights, endless to-do lists, and learning how to navigate an entirely new identity. It has further strengthened my resilience in ways I never expected. Just like in business, there are times when things don’t go according to plan. A product launch doesn’t hit the numbers I hoped for. A campaign underperforms. Unexpected roadblocks appear.

But I’ve learned how to keep going. How to pivot. How to trust that persistence will pay off. The ability to push through, to stay the course even when things feel hard, is something that motherhood has ingrained in me—and it’s a skill that I use every single day as a founder.

Learning to Let Go & Ask for Help

In both business and motherhood, perfection is an illusion. There are days when the laundry stays piled on the loveseat for longer than I’d like. There are days when I consistently ask for help because I cannot do it all. And that’s okay.

I’ve learned to let go of the guilt and accept that some things will have to wait. Just like in my personal life, I’ve had to embrace delegation in my business—recognizing that I can’t (and shouldn’t) do everything myself. Surrounding myself with the right people, both at home and in my work, has been essential in allowing me to grow and maintain my sanity.

Strengthening My Relationship with Clint

Motherhood has not only shaped me as a founder, but it has also strengthened my relationship with my husband, Clint. We have grown stronger together, learning how to navigate parenthood while supporting each other’s ambitions. We make time for each other to do activities that are important to us as parents and as individuals.

Clint has been incredibly supportive of my work on Hem Support Wear, helping in so many ways—from being my sounding board to filling orders and sample kit requests, juggling the kids, finding key members of my team, encouraging me to put myself out there, and so much more. His support has made a profound impact on my ability to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship, and I am deeply grateful for the partnership we share.

The Power of Humility

Motherhood has also taught me humility in the most real and raw ways. Whether it’s my kids literally sneezing in my face, washing vomit off a crying sick child in the middle of the night and then clearing my entire day to care for them, or knowing that Clint and I are the rock-solid foundation that lets our girls thrive, motherhood keeps me grounded. It has shown me what truly matters and reminded me that success isn’t just about external achievements—it’s about the love, care, and stability we provide for our family and the impact we make through our work.

The Power of Mindset

Motherhood forced me to take a hard look at how I was spending my time and energy. There were moments when I felt frustrated—torn between being a present mom and making progress in my business. I had to get clear on where to put my focus and shift my mindset from feeling stretched thin to feeling empowered by my choices.

Mindset work has been one of the most important pieces of my growth as a founder. Learning how to be intentional with my time, how to shift from frustration to gratitude, and how to maintain a sense of perspective has made all the difference.

Making Every Moment Count

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how to be productive with the time I have. Motherhood doesn’t leave much room for wasted hours. It has taught me how to prioritize, how to structure my work efficiently, and how to stay focused on what actually moves the needle. Every nap time, every preschool pickup, every block of focused work time—I’ve learned how to make them count.

There is no perfect balance, but there is a rhythm that works for me. And in that rhythm, I’ve found a way to grow as both a mother and a founder.

A Journey of Strength

Motherhood and entrepreneurship are deeply intertwined for me. One has made me better at the other. The lessons I’ve learned—from resilience to focus to letting go of perfection—continue to shape the way I build Hem Support Wear.

As we continue to celebrate the strength of women this month, I reflect on the power of motherhood and how it has shaped me not just as a mother, but as a founder. I celebrate not just my own journey, but the strength of every woman who is navigating the complexities of motherhood, career, and personal growth. We are stronger than we think, and the work we do—both in our businesses and in our homes—matters more than we can ever know.
